CCS
offers an incredibly unique method of outdoor therapy for clients through the
Adventure Youth Program. Created in 1998, the program offers kids an experiential
break through trips to the base camp, located in north Georgia, as well as visits
to parks throughout the state and the entire southeast. Trips include between
12 and 20 children during both weekend and week- long excursions. It allows the
kids to belong, improve life skills and resolve issues in a non-threatening manner.
But most importantly the Adventure Youth Program is fun! The children participate
in a variety of activities including kayaking, canoeing, hiking, bicycling, candle
making, soap making and more. Also, our camp staff members receive specialized
training in order to work with our children in this outdoor setting. Many have
backgrounds in fields such as education, first aid, outdoor leadership training,
orienteering and rock climbing to name a few. Trip Leaders are certified Wilderness
First Responders and have completed courses through the National Outdoor Leadership
School (NOLS). |
