Successful Transitions through Empowerment and Planning (S.T.E.P.) provides individualized care, supervision, and treatment to older adolescents based on their individual needs. The overall focus of the program is to work with youth who are approaching adulthood to prepare them to live independently and responsibly in the community.
There are four components that encompass the S.T.E.P. program:
Pre-Transitional Living Homes
The Pre-Transitional Living program is offered to youth in care who are approaching adulthood. The focus of the program is on preparation for this important life transition. These homes are designed for older adolescents who are ready to step from Therapeutic Foster Care into a setting that can allow them to develop their independence. Special attention is placed on practical skills such as cooking, budgeting, transportation, education, and vocational training.
Life Coach Support
Life Coaches focus on helping youth identify and plan for their future goals, whether they be related to education, socialization, or independence. Life Coaches provide additional support by serving as mentors, teaching life skills, and providing extra behavior or school assistance. They meet with youth on a requested hourly basis and can work with children living in TFC homes, group homes, or Independent Living Programs.
Teen Youth Group
In this program, CCS youth attend outings geared toward socialization, recreation, and community service. Activities will be held regularly and are open to teens fourteen and older. Seminars on specifi c life skills needed to function “in the real world” will also be offered. Youth will be encouraged to develop their advocacy skills by participating in the Georgia Youth Empowerment Program.
